Our History

Although Langworthy Community Church officially came about in 2004, its origins go back to 1999 when EDEN Salford started. Over a dozen volunteer workers moved into the Seedley & Langworthy area to specifically work with young people and the local community, coordinated by the Message Trust. The EDEN team were initially attached to Mount Chapel, a local church just to the north of  the main estate.

In the following summer, the Message Trust facilitated ‘Message 2000’ – a citywide event of two week programme of Social Action projects across greater Manchester, partnered with evening events at the MEN Arena each night. Along with this, there were two lasting legacies left to the to the city – the LifeCentre, and the EDEN Bus (a sort of mobile version of the LifeCentre). The LifeCentre was initially a partnership between the Message Trust, Shaftsbury Society, and Open Hands International, but is now solely managed by the Message Trust.

After several years of input to the community, it was mutually agreed that the time had come for the EDEN team to launch a new style church plant, having a very strong community focus. Langworthy Community Church formally came about Easter 2004, with the aim of being a welcoming church for people living in Langworthy and the surrounding area who are interested in Jesus but not yet attending another church.
